Free unlimited bandwidth image hosting for Blogger blogs
This tutorial is about hosting images that are used in parts of your layout –images for backgrounds, buttons, badges etc. We usually host them on a free image host because Blogger does not provide hosting for images other than the main background image, images in your posts, header and picture gadgets.
But do you know there is a trick you can use to make Blogger host these images?
Now why would you want to use Blogger when you have Photobucket, Flickr, ImageShack, TinyPic, Imgur and many other free image hosts available out there? Here’s why:
I. Reasons why you should host images on Blogger
- Bandwidth
These dreaded “bandwidth exceeded” images say it all. Free image hosts usually impose a bandwidth limit. Exceed of the limit and you will see one of these images instead of your image.
Blogger on the other hand, provides unlimited bandwidth.
Almost all free third party Blogger templates use free image host (with limited bandwidth) to host their images. If you are one of the users, beware! Sooner or later your blog also might be littered with “bandwidth exceeded” pictures!(If your site is self-hosted e.g. WordPress, consider putting it up on a dedicated server for faster speed and a lot more bandwidth).
- Speed
Hosting all images on Blogger (rather than Blogger plus other external servers) will reduce HTTP requests, therefore reducing loading time. Besides, Blogger is a part of Google –known for its super fast servers.
II. How you go about hosting your images on Blogger
- Go to post editor to create a new post.
- Add (upload) the image just like you add any other image to a post.
- Switch to Edit HTML mode.
- You will see the code for the image, somewhat like this:
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxUhWkBNrHmHQ44l523TDLZrB8GSZKM7nkYkejaSeTCQi9mvBxj7Rn7-qd_RtFpSp9zIL4DfId6TOCb0mkuEdpGWf4-9mWTMMRMbKEApereXh5k5n_3jsOE7xmFoo29kWxiddpSspcqCc/s1600/imagename.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxUhWkBNrHmHQ44l523TDLZrB8GSZKM7nkYkejaSeTCQi9mvBxj7Rn7-qd_RtFpSp9zIL4DfId6TOCb0mkuEdpGWf4-9mWTMMRMbKEApereXh5k5n_3jsOE7xmFoo29kWxiddpSspcqCc/s320/imagename.png" /></a></div>Notice the code has two URLs in it.
- The first URL (in green) comes after “href”. This is the link to your original image. It should come with "s1600" in the path, like this:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/………………………/s1600/imagename.png
- The second URL (in blue) comes after “src”. This is the link of the image you see on your post.
- The first URL (in green) comes after “href”. This is the link to your original image. It should come with "s1600" in the path, like this:
- We are only interested in the first URL, the one with "s1600". You want this URL since it is the direct link to your original image.
- Copy and paste it your HTML.
- Exit the post editor. You don't have to save post as the image is
already stored in Blogger server.
Enjoy!

nice info. i use imageshack n flickr to host my picture. save my bandwidth. :-)
@Amir Said
A wise thing to do if you use self hosted Wordpress (where bandwidth is limited).
How about the speed, is it any good (compared to hosting them on your own server)?
Great suggestion, the amount of users too lazy to host their own files is breaking down my server. lol.. :)
@ToeKneeManGo
Try dstar2's solution in this Blogger Help Forum thread or this suggestion by Blogger.
@ToeKneeManGo
Looks like Blogger hasn't resolve this problem :(
I usually make a dummy blog to host images. In case I forgot the (weird) URL, I can grab it from the dummy blog.
@Sastrality
Great tip! Thanks for sharing that.
@Greenlava and @ToeKneeManGo That happened to me and it had to do with the plug ins of my browser or something like that. I unistalled and installed firefox and that fixed my problem.
Thanks for the Tip Greenlava!
@ToeKneeManGo
I don't have the answer for this. It seems a lot of people are still having similar problems with picture uploading.
Have you tried this suggestion?

optimizing images in small as possible filesize using RIOT, pngout, super gif is the half thing done. Don't use images bigger than 50kb. speed up page load and reduce bandwidth usage.
Thanks for all the good tips on your site!

but. blogger.com not provide uploader software like imageshack. so here we must do more step to get the image URL. This thing so crap
Before this I was just wondering how to get the "direct links" of the images I'm uploading in blogger. Registered myself to Photobucket also for this.
Thanks a lot.....
Have recently floated my 1st blog on the web (http://placentrex.blogspot.com/) on a serious subject and have landed up here for getting tips. The way you individually help the visitors rather say followers of your site by commenting on each query is just too good. Keep it up!
I thought its my duty to say a few words here....
Thanks & Regards

Great thing but for blogger, Google never count the images smaller than 1600 pixel in the limit quota.
I appreciate this post.
