How to put Adsense ads on a Blogger blog
Google Adsense in one of the more popular ways to monetize your blog. When implemented, Adsense will display targeted Google advertisements on your blog. The content of the ads is often relevant to your blog page’s content and audience.
This tutorial will show you the three ways how you can add Adsense ads to your blog. Of course to be able to do all this, you have to Sign up to Adsense first.
Note: Adsense allows only up to 3 ad units, 3 link units and 2 search boxes per page. Keep that limit in mind when adding your ads.
1. Inline ads
This method puts an ad unit at the end of each blog post, depending on your ad frequency setting.
- Go to Layout (old UI: Design > Page Elements) and click the edit link in Blog Posts gadget box.
- Check the Show Ads Between Posts checkbox.
- Configure your ad frequency, ad format, and colors. Live preview is provided beneath the settings.
- Click Save when done.
2. Adsense gadget
Use this method to add an ad unit as a widget, in places outside the blog post area. You can reposition the ad simply by dragging it in Layout page, just like any other widget. You can even target on which pages it should appear.
- Go to Layout (old UI: Design > Page Elements) and click an Add-A-Gadget link.
- Select Adsense Gadget.
- Configure your ad format and colors.
- Click Save when done.
3. Adsense code
This method is not as easy to implement as it involves some coding, but it gives you more control. The most notable benefits of using this method are:
- Place ad anywhere on your blog
You can place the code anywhere in your blog template, accessing locations otherwise impossible with inline ad or Adsense gadget. You can even place it in your blog post or page. - Monitor your ad performance (channel monitoring).
Where is the best location to put an ad on your blog? Which format performs the best? Find out by yourself by assigning a channel/channels to an add. You can then monitor the ad performance through the channels. If you are serious about monetizing with Adsense, the this feature is a must use. - Not limited to ad units.
You can choose types other than ad unit, such as link unit or search box.
Here’s a the procedure for creating an ad and adding it to your blog:
- Create an ad in Google Adsense website.
- Click AdSense Setup tab and then select Adsense For Content.
- Choose your ad type, choose format and colors and assign channels.
- When the setup is completed, you will be given a code. Copy the ad code and add it to your blog, using one of the following methods:
- Pasting the code in a HTML/Javascript gadget, or
- Pasting it in a blog post’s or page’s HTML, or
- Placing it in the blog template. Make sure you escape the code first before pasting it in your template. If you want, you can make the ad appear only on certain page types and disappear on the rest, or vice versa.
Enjoy!

Good to have you here :)
I have tried to monetize my blog a few times, but they said my blog language is not supported. I think because I blog in Malay.
I do have some English posts, apparently, there is no such minimum English words used.
Until now, cannot install adsense. Do you have solution on this?
@Khairi
You need a blog in English (English as the main language). Use that blog when applying for Adsense.
I have a 728 x 90 leaderboard block at the top -- it's sort of inside the header, I don't seem to have any choice about that -- but it's aligned to the left and that looks stupid.
How can I center it?
@Gina
Go to Design > Template Designer > Advanced > Add CSS and add this code:
#widgetID {text-align:center;}
How to find your widget ID? Read How to find Blogger widget and section Id

Thanks! I did it and it worked!
You're a genius...
Hey erm I tried to use a html/javascript gadget but the ad didnt show up. Like there was just a blank square there instead.
@Anonymous
Blank square usually indicates something wrong with the Adsense code.
Thanks for the help
Thanks for your article but my problem is weird, I have the Adsense tab but the problem is it showing
"We couldn't retrieve data for your report. Please try again in a few moments or visit AdSense Reports."
error message, Now problem occur nearly month ago, Still that error message displaying!! Is it problem with my blogger template? Or any other issue?
@Shane
I don't have the answer but I don't think it's related to template though. Why don't you post this question in AdSense Help Forum. Maybe the TCs there can help.
Hi! I've done 1 and 2 but nothing was changed on my blog page. Does it mean that I just have to wait for Google adsense to place relevant ads on my blog? Thanks
@krizza
Yes you have to wait. It usually takes less than 10 minutes.
Anyway looks like the ads have appeared.
hi
i have added adsense gadget in my blog at gadget area but google add are not showing in that area instead that it'showing a blank rectangular box.
i hope this is due to my addsense account problem..
my addsense status:
Account Not Active
An AdSense account does not exist for this login, as your application is currently in review. Within a week of your application date, we'll review your application and follow-up with you via email. Once you are approved to join AdSense, you'll be able to log in to your account and get started.
Plz tell me the solution on that....
Regards
Santosh
@Santosh
There's nothing much you can do except wait.
I want to add some Adsense gadgets to select pages on my blog. I know how to conditionally display them, but I've been leary of adding the gadget because I don't know how much control we have over what gets advertised there. I certainly don't want a company or product I'm boycotting or think is total tripe to pop up simply because it's in the queue.
Is there any way to link specifically to one company or one product using Adsense? Like if I wanted to embed the ad on a "Recommendation" or "Reviews" page?
@Plickety Cat
You can filter Adsense ads:

Hello, I would like to insert adsense advertising on the mobile version of my blog. I noticed that you did it. Could you explain how?
@La Cucina Imperfetta di Giuliana
I use Adsense gadget, but with a "mobile" attribute added, like this:
<b:widget id='AdSense1' locked='false' mobile='only' title='' type='AdSense'/>
you can read about it here:

How to put adsense code below post without parsing adsense code?
@Berita Hankam
Another option is to put the code in CDATA section, like this:

Okay hi, I saw a similar post on another blog and I'm wondering if the other one was legit...because I see responses to reader's comments here but nothing on the other blog.
Anyway, I had a question...over the last 2 years i have tried all the 3 methods of adding ads to my blog, and positioning them differently. This month I tried a combination of each.
But this month suddenly the earnings have dropped so much even after the frequent blog updates and despite the obvious increase in traffic, so i am wondering if each of these 3 ways you mentioned works the same or is one way better than the other?
Thanks.
@Nisha
What method you use to produce the ads will have no effect on your earnings.
What does affect your earnings are the ads' location, size, type and color (for text ad).
Very useful post for new.
Thanks a lot bro :)
nice tips .. thanks a lot..
